Anil Baijal took over as Union Home Secretary on February 08, 2004.

There might be changes at top level in Jammu and Kashmir next month, Kashmir Life has learnt.

Sources disclosed late Saturday night that Governor N N Vohra might be relieved of his position in a month or so from now.

They said that many for army and civil officers are in the race to replace Vohra, however, Anil Baijal (IAS retd) is the top choice.

Baijal is a 1969 batch IAS officer and took over as Union Home Secretary in 2004 wherefrom he retired later.

Sources said that change was “imminent” but was put on hold given the huge crisis Kashmir is witnessing currently.

Vohra, a news report some days ago suggested, had flown to United States of America to meet his daughter. The report claimed that “Vohra was not happy with the current regime’s handling of the situation”.

Interestingly, Vohra, an old Kashmir hand, was made governor of J&K at the peak of 2008 mass civil anti-India uprising. This is his second stint as J&K government currently.

At least 71 civilians have been shot dead by forces and over 8500 injured since July 09 when mass protests were triggered by the killing of popular militant commander Burhan Wani.
