The five permanent members (P-5) of United Nations and European Union (EU) Ambassadors have stressed the need to resolve Kashmir issue peacefully while acknowledging the importance of dialogue to address this long-standing issue and the prevailing grave situation.

This was stated by advisor on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz to Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday.

Aziz also urged the United Nations and the European Union to fulfil their commitment to the people of Jammu and Kashmir under the UN Security Council resolutions.

Radio Pakistan reported that Aziz was briefing ambassadors of permanent members of UN Security Council and the European Union in Islamabad on Friday over the “killings and serious human rights violations being committed by the Indian forces in Kashmir”.

“The Advisor said the international community; especially permanent members of the UN Security Council and the European Union have an important role to uphold principles of human rights and international humanitarian law,” the radio report quoted Aziz as saying.

Aziz also deplored the use of “brute force by the Indian occupation forces” against the innocent Kashmiri people and conveyed serious concern over the bloodshed in Kashmir.

“The Advisor said the oppressive measures by India couldn’t deter the valiant people of the Jammu and Kashmir from their just struggle for their Right of Self Determination. He regretted the refusal from the Indian side in response to Pakistan’s proposal for talks on Jammu and Kashmir dispute,” the report said.
