People in South Kashmir’s Pulwama on Tuesday had called for “Pirchoo Chalo”. There have been big pro-freedom rallies being held every other day in South Kashmir parts, however, this times it was thwarted resulting in injuries to many.

Local sources said that hundreds of forces including personnel of Rashtriya Rifles, SOG, CRPF reached Pirchoo village, very close to Pulwama main town, around 3 in the morning.

‘The preparations for the mass pro-freedom rally were being held since Tuesday,” local sources said, “tents had been erected while a big platform was set for the speakers.”

The local sources, however, said, “forces came and cordoned the area, took over the stage thus disallowing the rally.”

“After people came to know about it, announcements were made on Masjid loud speakers asking people to come out,” they said, “however, forces did not allow people to come near the venue of the rally.”

“It was dark but people assembled in the local stadium,” the local sources informed, “forces rushed to the spot and used force to disperse off the people.”

Local sources said that at least 15 persons have been injured while many have been arrested. “At least 20 youths have been arrested in Gangoo village only,” a local said.

Correspondent reports quoting locals said that forces fired pellets to disperse the protesting people. “Injured people have not gone to hospital,” reports said.

“I saw an injured youth who was bleeding from his mouth and people were taking him towards safer place.” a witness from the scene said.  “The whole area is blanketed in smoke and tear gas firing shots can be heard repeatedly.”

Pulwama Hospital sources said that they haven’t received a single causality so far.

Reports reaching here suggest that following the mid-night raid, forces have imposed strict curfew in and around the Pulwama town to foil the locally-called march to Prichoo village.

“Announcements are being made in adjoining areas to come out and march towards Prichoo,” correspondent reports said, “Rashtriya Rifles personnel have taken over and they have spread their deployments up to Pinglena village.”

When contacted, the district hospital Pulwama sources said, “we have not received even a single injured person since Wednesday early morning.”
