The J&K Police have raided the district office of Jama’at-e-Islami (JeI) Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday afternoon.

Sources in JeI said that two of its top leaders have been arrested.

“The police have raided the Shopian office where two of our senior members have been arrested,” JeI Spokesperson, Adv Zahid Ali, told Kashmir Life.

The detained JeI leaders include popular Islamic scholar and chief of JeI’s Shopian district, Shahzada Aurangzeb and Ameer-e-Tehsil Mohammad Sikandar.

Today’s raid on Jama’at is second in less than a week. Last time, forces had raided in the mid-night the house of Jama’at’s known public leader, Mujahid Shabir Ahmad Falahi in Kamla area of Tral in Pulwama district.

Mujahid was not present in the house but forces had tried to arrest his brother Noor Mohammad. Resisting the arrest of their son, father and mother of Mujahid were injured when pellets hit his father and a bullet hit her mother in forearm.

“To shadow its atrocities on people, government is targeting Jama’at,” Zahid said, “There is a design in it.”
