Protests erupted in North Kashmir’s Trehgam area when people tried to take out a rally after Friday prayers.

Local reports from the area said that as soon as the congregational Friday prayers ended, people started raising pro-freedom and anti-India slogans. They were intercepted by forces which led to clashes.

“Stone pelting and tear gas shelling is going on in the area,” local report said.

Meanwhile, reports said that intense clashes were going on in South Kashmir’s Dooru area which falls in Islamabad district.

Local reports said that people tried to take out a march after Friday prayers but they were stopped by forces.

Later, youths and forces engaged in battles with stones being used by former and tear gassing by the latter.

Kashmir is witnessing complete shutdown today as ‘Jamia Masjid Chalo’ was blocked by government by arresting Syed Ali Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.

Government clamped down with strict curfew today to thwart any movement towards Nowhatta in Srinagar where Jamia Masjid is located.

In Sonwar area, where office of United Nations Observers Group is located, people tried to march towards it to submit a memorandum but were barred by forces. It resulted in clashes.
