Sumegha Gulati, a Delhi based Journalist, is no more. RIP!

Young and in ever love with Kashmir, Gulati was a suffering from bone marrow cancer. She left this world around 12:30 PM on Friday when she was in Mumbai for treatment. She was 26.

An independent journalist with The Caravan Magazine and The Scroll, Sumegha spent a considerable time in Kashmir interning with Greater Kashmir in 2009.

A resident of New Delhi, she studied journalism from Asian College of Journalism Chennai before moving to University of Delhi. She worked with The Hindustan Times, The Indian Express before starting working independently.

As soon as the news of Gulati’s death spread, Kashmiri journalists expressed their sorrow by writing on FB wall of Sumegha Gulati.

A friend of Sumegha, Trisha Mahajan, told Kashmir Life that Sumegha was suffering from some infection yesterday after which she was admitted in a Mumbai hospital.

“She was living with her family in New Delhi,” Mahajan said, “her brother got recently married.”

The death of Gulati is a shock for her teachers and friends as it is for her family.

Gulati’s teacher, Miti Dhingra wrote on her Facebook:

“Sumegha Gulati.. my brave brave bachha.. you have been one of the reasons that has made me proud of being a teacher..your teacher.. RIP you courageous soul.. I will miss you..miss your insipred journaliam..your constant arguments with Palak and Vishnu… I wish I had had one chance to see you again.. goodbye my dear..may you find peace and health in eternity.”

“Sumegha, your gentle and bright face will always inspire me to be affectionate and brave in the days to come. Our last conversation is as memorable as heart-wrenching and will always keep me going in the tough times. May God give you eternal rest and the family the strength to bear the great pain,” wrote Manzoor ul Hassan, a Srinagar based Journalist.

Sumegha had last updated her Facebook, where was mostly available at, on July 27 seeking immediate help for some a fellow patient.

Her FB status read:

“Hello. This is urgent. We need AB- and B- blood at ACTREC in Navi Mumbai for a fellow, preferably before 5 today. Patient’s family also arranging. Hopefully they may get it but If anyone of u can make it, please inbox me.”
