Intense pro-freedom protests erupted in North Kashmir’s Palhallan area on Friday afternoon.

Local sources said that people of Palhallan had organized a single Friday prayer congregation today in main Eidgah.

“At least 20000 people offered in Eidgah today before protests erupted,” locals said. “After prayers ended, people took out marches and raised pro-freedom and anti-India slogans.”

The locals said that forces were present at the entrance of the town when clashes erupted. “Hundreds of youths are engaged in battle with forces who are lobbing tear gas canisters and flash bangs,” a local wishing anonymity said.

“I have never seen such a situation in my area before,” a local said, “although I remain out of station for most of time but today it is hell.”

Meanwhile, a newspaper report said that protests erupted in Bandipora’s Hajin, Kaloosa and Ajar areas after Friday prayers today.

There is deployment of army besides para-military and police personnel in all volatile areas of the district to stop people from coming on roads, the report added.
