Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura Tuesday chaired a meeting of officers to review essential services and availability of commodities in district Budgam.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Mir Altaf Ahmad, SSP Syed Abdul Waheed and district officers of line departments, an official spokesperson said early this evening.

The Minister took comprehensive review of the functioning of departments including CAPD, Health, PHE, PDD, Municipalities, Rural Development, Education etc.

Addressing the meeting, the Minister urged all public servants to reach out to the people so that peace can be restored at the earliest. He asked the security forces to exercise maximum restraint.

The Minister appreciated the support extended by the general public at this critical juncture for restoring peace and normalcy.

The Minister directed the concerned for ensuring availability of essential commodities and providing uninterrupted water and power supply in the district.

The Minister while taking review of CAPD was informed that 88% of the allotted grains for the month of July have been distributed. The Minister was assured that there is no deficiency with regard to food grains, LPG, diesel and petrol. The Minister also directed to ensure ATMS are regularly filled with cash.

The Minister impressed upon the CEO, ZEOs and Principals of various schools to reach out to the public especially elders and Village Committees in order to persuade the masses to ensure schools are allowed to function so that our children are not deprived of education.

He also urged the CEO, ZEOS to identify miscreants if any within the department who are not allowing the schools to operate.

The Minister while taking a review of the functioning of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Horticulture Departments advised them that in such difficult times they should play a key role in ensuring marketing and distribution of such essentials.

The Minister also said that the present turmoil has jeopardized the economy of the state especially key sectors like tourism and allied sectors.

He said that various daily wagers have been severely affected and many of their families are not even able to have a proper meal.

He appreciated the District Civil and Police Administration for the role played by them in maintaining peace and ensuring no life is lost despite provocations during the previous days.

Earlier, DC Budgam gave a detailed account of functioning of essential services in the district.

SSP Budgam also gave a comprehensive account of the situation prevailing in the district. DC Budgam instructed all the officers to ensure punctuality in their offices.

Later on the Minister visited various hospitals in Budgam including PHC Ompora and took stock of the availability of medicines and other facilities. He also inspected various wards, dental ward, X -ray unit, etc.

The Minister also interacted with the patients and attendants and resolved on spot some of their grievances.
