Minutes after government announced lifting of curfew from summer capital here, violent clashes erupted in some parts of Old Srinagar.

Reports and local witnesses said that scores of people had taken out a march in Safakadal area when forces intercepted them resulting in clashes.

Meanwhile, taraanay are being played through Masjid Loudspeakers in Maisuma area which are audible as far as Mushtaq Enclave near Partap Park.

Eye-witnesses told KNS that the residents mostly youth of Safa Kadal and Kak Sarai area here took to streets and staged protest against the civilian killings in Kashmir. The protesters were chanting anti-India and pro-freedom slogans.

The forces, however, swung into action to disperse the protesters who in return pelted stones on the forces deployed in the areas.

The people were protesting the killing of civilians by forces in last 17 days in Kashmir.

At least 52 unarmed protestors were killed by forces during mass uprising which started with the killing of popular militant commander Burhan Wani on July 08, 2016 evening in Kokernag area of South Kashmir.

On Tuesday morning, J&K government announced lifting of curfew from Srinagar even as joint resistance camp has given relaxation in shutdown from 2PM today.

Meanwhile, private cars are plying, intermittently, on MA and Residency Roads in Srinagar while cops are stopping and verifying documents and licences of riders of two wheelers near Exchange Road.
