SRINAGAR

A civil society group on Monday strongly deplored the Union Home Minister’s “rubbing salt on the raw wounds” of Kashmiris by “what he said; by the very tone and grammar of his press conference”.

“He behaved typically as a colonial lord who is least bothered  by  the heart rending carnage his forces have carried out of the unarmed mourners of Burhan Wani resulting in the brutal killing of 55 persons so far and blinding and crippling injuries to at least 500 youth which is  a new horror created by his professional forces!” KCSDS said in a statement this evening after holding an emergency meet.

“He amply showed that he is only bothered about how to control a passionate and angry resisting populace by any or all means. That is why instead of expressing remorse for the havoc his forces have wrought his crassness was apparent in his smilingly saying that he is sorry for the happenings and evaded the issue by saying that he appeals for calm to people. Instead of announcing solid steps to be taken straightaway to address the political problem and calm down the people (which is not only devouring our young boys but because of which we have been condemned to live in an unnatural order of highest militarised space and paralysing political stalemate and uncertainty for the resolution of which 1200 villages, all the towns and cities came out on the streets, he put the ounce of bringing ‘peace and normalcy’ to the victims of state terrorism!  What could be a crueller & macabre joke than this! And added ‘then the government would ‘think over when and what could be done’ (this ‘responsibility has been entrusted to ‘the grand powerful CM of the state’). His posturing was nothing new. His power drunk and supercilious utterances were outrageous to say the least. This has been the standard response of Delhi to our universally agreed upon sacred demands. In early 90s, when youth of Kashmir resorted to armed struggle as a vehicle for compelling Indian state to grant us the Right to Self Determination, all her machinery came into full swing to not only to crush the youth with brute force but dissuade Kashmiris from the violent path with the promise that the Delhi government will resolve the issue once Kashmiris would fight politically,” the KCSDS statement said.

“Kashmiri youth made a paradigmatic shift to peaceful protests in 2008 but were met with the same brute force resulting in 68 killings and over 2000 critically injured persons. And in 2010 again, cataclysmic protest demonstrations were responded to by excessive brute force resulting in the killings of 130 persons out of which 90 were small boys and girls legitimised under the blanket impunity provided by AFSPA. That time also we were told that once the situation is normal, the issue would be addressed in its entirety. Interlocutors were used to buy time, even their skewed recommendations were thrown into dustbin of history. Today the situation is different. Home minister’s prevarications will not succeed in deceiving people. Today they have come out with the determination to get the issue resolved and the protests are directly related to the main issue of colonial military occupation,” the statement added, “Let me also take this opportunity to thank all those Indians who have shown solidarity with us  and  denounced the brutalities in unambiguous terms and support our  just struggle. Let us also condemn in strongest terms the dirty and ugly role some sections of Indian media are playing as an extended arm of the Indian state. Let us also acknowledge with gratitude the coverage and helpful discussions the saner elements of Indian media have devoted to high light the Kashmir issue and the tyrannical doings of Indian state.”
