A private school was set ablaze in South Kashmir’s Islamabad district on late Friday evening.

Local sources said that unknown persons set ablaze Iqra English Medium Public School which is located at Naik Mohalla Badagund in Verinag.

“The fire started around 8:30 pm,” sources said. The school is owned by a lady, Javeda Begum.

“The school building was constructed mostly of timber which was completely destroyed,” they added.

It was Middle-level run school.

“Such were the flames that within no time the school was completely smoked up,” locals said.

Meanwhile, reports said that an attempt was made to set ablaze a building in New Market Mattan in Islamabad district this evening.

“The building house a J&K Bank business unit,” sources said, “but fire fighters rushed and saved the building but damaged have been done.”
