Hurriyat Conference (m) chairperson, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was arrested by police outside his Nigeen residence when he started his march towards besieged historic Jamia Masjid on Friday.

The joint resistance leadership had asked people to break siege of Jamia Masjid at Nowhatta today as the J&K government has banned mandatory congregational Friday prayers in the Jamia for consecutive fifteen Friday. But once again, today, no prayers were allowed in the historic prayer centre in summer capital.

Mirwaiz was put under detention at his home after he was shifted to home in the evening of Oct 24, 2016 from sub-jail Chasma Shahi.
