Hurriyat Conference (m) on Thursday said that following the announcement by joint resistance leadership that Jamia Masjid military siege will be defied and mandatory congregational Friday prayers will be offered after 15 weeks of forcibly disallowing people from doing so, government since this morning in order to sabotage the program, deployed massive military presence in and around Jamia Masjid area.

“All roads lanes and by lanes leading to Jamia Masjid were blocked and amid curbs and strict restrictions, new bunkers were set up in the area thus harassing and scaring the people living there,” a statement issued by the Hurriyat Conference said this evening.

“Anti-Muslim and anti-Kashmir policy of the ruling regime is beyond condemnation now and in the realm of despicable and deplorable,” the statement added.

The statement said, “undeclared curfew imposed by the government, restrictions, crackdowns, arrests and house arrests, arbitrary arrest spree of resistance leaders and youths; torture and beating up of people, state terrorism, interference in religious rights, and violation of human rights aimed at forcing people into submission and giving up on their resistance movement nourished with the pious blood of the martyrs, was not going to make us yield. Despite being at the receiving end of brutal oppression and violence, people were carrying forward the resistance movement with consistency and unity for the greater cause of right to self-determination.”

Urging people to participate in large numbers in the Friday congregational prayers at Jamia Masjid, Srinagar on October 28, the statement said, “Insha Allah, Mirwaiz would move towards Jamia Masjid to offer Friday prayers with the people.”
