The Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan, Thursday convened a meeting to review the arrangements to be put in place by various departments for the clearance of snow in view of ensuing winter.

Deputy Commissioners of Kashmir province participated in the meeting through video conferencing, while as Director CA&PD, Commissioner SMC and Chief Engineers of R&B, Mechanical Engineering, PHE, and UEED Departments attended the meeting, an official spokesperson said this evening.

It was said that 125 snow cutter machines have been kept ready for snow clearance operations. While giving the breakup, the Chief Engineer Mechanical Engineering Department said that 23 snow cutter machines have been kept in Srinagar, 11 in Budgam, 17 in Islamabad, 6 in Pulwama, 7 in Shopian, 9 in Kulgam, 6 in Bandipora, 10 in Kupwara, 4 in Ganderbal 27 in Baramulla and 5 in Gurez.

The Deputy Commissioners told the meeting that special control rooms have been established in their respective districts.

The meeting was also informed that a control room has also been established in Police Control room Srinagar for the public in case of any emergency.

The Divisional Commissioner directed the officers to gear up their men and machinery to deal with any emergency. He also directed the Chief Engineer PHE to ensure supply of adequate safe drinking water in the valley so that people do not face any problem for want of drinking water.

The officers of BRO were asked to complete repair works of the roads before the snowfall.
