A delegation led by Dr Farooq Abdullah, former Chief Minister, met Governor N N Vohra at the Raj Bhavan here on Tuesday.

Putting forth their demands, the delegation urged the Governor to impress upon the State Government: to take stern action against those police and security forces personnel who are involved in indiscriminate arrests, nocturnal raids and ransacking of civilian houses in the Valley; to ensure that the rights of the Gujjar and Bakerwal communities are protected, their lives and properties safeguarded and they are treated as dignified citizens of the State; effective and time-bound compensation to shopkeepers and inhabitants of Rajouri, Mendhar and Poonch, who are victims of firing and shelling from across the LoC, an official spokesperson said this evening.

The Governor observed that the raised issues would be taken up with the Chief Minister.

The delegation comprised Legislators: Ali Mohammad Sagar, Mian Altaf Ahmad and Devender Singh Rana and NC’s Spokesperson, Junaid Mattu.
