Senior resistance leader and Hurriyat Conference (m) chairperson Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was released from sub-jail Chasma Shahi on Monday evening.

However, sources said that he was immediately placed under house detention at his Nigeen residence.

Mirwaiz was put under house detention on July 08 2016 evening when popular militant commander Burhan Wani was killed in Bemdoora area of Islamabad district. On August 26, Mirwaiz was shifted to Police Station Nigeen wherefrom he was taken to Chasma Shahi and lodged in a hut turned sub-jail. The jail runs under the authorities at Central Jail Srinagar.

Kashmir is witnessing a civilian uprising and top resistance leadership including Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik are spear heading it.

On Monday, Kashmir has already completed 108 days of shutdown which witnessed a 52-day continuous curfew.

The uprising was triggered by the death of Wani and sine then at least 95 civilians have been killed and more than 15000 others injured.
