Sit-In Protest led by Geelani

On the occasion of United Nations day, today, All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) Chairperson, Syed Ali Geelani, on Monday said that its sole aim is to establish peace, tranquillity, stop wars and colonialism, abolish slavery, facilitate basic and fundamental rights for individuals, nations and countries.

“Its fundamental role was to sort out differences between nations and countries and to avoid wars and pave way for safe and peaceful life for the people living on globe and though the mission and aims were of great significance but this institution failed to deliver because of the Veto power entrusted to its basic five member countries and that hampered its smooth and judicious functioning,” Hurriyat patriarch Geelani said in a statement issued this evening.

Citing the precedence, Geelani said, “Indian authorities raised the Kashmir issue in United Nations and Security council accorded eighteen resolutions for peaceful settlement of Kashmir issue and India and Pakistan both are signatory to this but erstwhile USSR (now Russia) used Veto power to make this impossible and till now the world body failed to implement all these resolutions.”

Veto power holding countries including America, Russia, Britain, China and France are responsible for its failure, said Geelani.

Criticizing the role played by UNO, the Hurriyat Conference Chairperson said that it failed to deliver its responsibility for the suppressed people of Palestine, Israel and its colonialism are the main impediments for independent Palestine.

Criticizing USA and Britain for their “unlawful” support to Israel, Geelani said these two countries are providing the political and logistic support to Israel.

Citing the “highhandedness” of America, the Hurriyat Conference chief said that these countries on mere pretext invaded Iraq and United Nation acted as mute spectator.

“Their allegation about Sadam Hussain proved baseless as no nuclear weapons were later traced by any international body,” he said, “this institution even failed to save Afghanistan from ravage that was caused due to American invasion.” “Nor this institution saved the Arab countries from bloodshed.”

The octogenarian Hurriyat Conference chairperson Geelani while lamenting the UN body said that millions of people were killed in Syria and one million are living a life of migrants in different countries.

“Similarly in Egypt, the UNO instead of coming to the rescue of democratically elected government, it provided its support to military coup,” he observed.

Referring to Kashmir issue, Geelani said, “we have pinned hope with this institution, because it is the moral duty of this body to implement the resolutions it has passed.”

“It is the moral obligation for UNO to implement all these resolutions and impress India to ascertain the will and wish of people of state with regards to their political destiny as UN; (UN) General Secretary has repeatedly asked both countries to sort out differences and resolve issue through negotiations and though both countries were engaged in 150 sessions of negotiations but yielded no result because the India is rhetoric about Kashmir being its integral part which is contradictory to historical facts,” he asserted.

Taking a dig at “dilly-dallying” approach of UN, he said, “people of J&K presented enormous sacrifices and continues to serve freedom movement with their commitment till the issue is resolved as per historical perspective.”

Criticizing the role played by UN, Geelani said that this forum is responsible for deaths and destruction in Kashmir, Palestine, Syria, Iraq Afghanistan, Libya and other parts of world and they seem to be insensitive and indifferent. “We hope that this institution will deliver its duty towards the peaceful resolution of Kashmir and Palestine.”
