Langate Lawmaker, Er Rashid was on Monday morning arrested by police near Secretariat following his “Secretariat Gherao”, program against the termination of twelve government employees.

“He was arrested by police in a ruthless manner and some of our party workers have sustained injuries after police used force on them,” said Awami Ittihaad Party (AIP) spokesperson, Inam Ul Nabi. Rashid heads AIP. “Some of our associates too have been arrested.”

The protest march towards Civil Secretariat of AIP was stopped near J&K High Court Srinagar office. “Nagpur Ki Nagin – Jawab Do Jawab Do; Nirmal Singh Hai Hai,” the AIP workers, who numbered over hundred, raised such slogans.

Rashid said that he and his party colleagues attempted to meet Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) president, Ab Qayoom Wani on Sunday, “but police did not allow us”.

The men in uniform dragged the AIP activists and whisked them away in police vans.

Earlier, this morning police had forced their entry into personal car of MLA Langate after he tried to leave his Jawahar Nagar residence. “An SI rank officer caught MLA by his neck forced his driver to return home from Iqbal Park,” Inam added.

At least twelve government employees were terminated from their services for their alleged role in pro-freedom and anti-India protests since July 09, 2016.
