Continuing its crackdown on pro-freedom protestors, forces carried out a mid-night raid in Maloora locality of Shalteng area in Srinagar outskirts during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.

The locals of the area said that men in uniform barged and arrested many persons and damaged private property.

A local from the area said, “at around 1:30 AM, we heard sounds of shells which alarmed the whole locality, then there was pause for some time. First shells were fired near Hanfia Jamia Masjid situated on the entry point the locality.”

He added that police and CRPF men barged into the locality, and firing shells incessantly which lasted for one hour.

A youth from adjacent locality of Maloora said, “with every shell fired, it would lighten up the whole area momentarily as if lighting struck some area repeatedly.”

“They damaged the houses located on the edge of the street,” an elderly resident of the locality said.

Among the arrested persons is a local shopkeeper.

According to locals, the forces had come to arrest his son who was not at the home but instead arrested his father.

The fear has gripped the whole area and people have stayed indoors. However, a JKP cop from Police station Parimpora denied any such arrests.

In a similar raid, forces arrested more than one dozen persons and ransacked property in Barzulla area of Srinagar. There were protests going on in the area when reports last came.
