At least five shops were destroyed in a major blaze on Friday late night in South Kashmir’s Shopian district.

Reports said that flames started emanating from five shops at Teng road Shopian around 11 PM last night.

“The cause of fire is not known,” sources said, “but the fire has completely destroyed the shops.”

Fire fighters, Police and army men rushed to the spot but the damages had already been done.

“It is fifth such episode in the district,” sources said, “earlier four shops went up in flames mysteriously.” “Two more attempts were made on medical shops as well.”

Notably, a passenger vehicle was “set on fire” around 8 PM on Friday in Old Srinagar’s Eidgah area. However, instant action by the locals saved the Tempo Traveller from further damages and they managed to douse the flames near Aali Masjid.

Earlier three passenger vehicles were set ablaze in Srinagar and Baramulla and two auto rickshaws were destroyed after unknown persons set them on fire in Old Srinagar. A private SUV was destroyed in mysterious fire in Saderbal area of Hazratbal a few days ago.
