Police on Friday said that twenty two (22) persons were killed while as forty two (42) others were injured in a tragic road accident on Thursday in Jammu region.

A cop from Jammu Police Control Room (PCR) told Kashmir Life this morning that a bus plunged in to a deep gorge at Gurnak area near Jyotipuram village in Reasi district on Thursday afternoon.

The bus under registration number JK02S-0295 was moving towards Bakal village from Reasi when it skidded off the track near a narrow curve. The driver failed to control the bus which fell in to the gorge resulting in death of 22 persons and injuries to 42 others. The bus was carrying seventy two passengers.

The injured were rushed to GMC Jammu and Mata Vaishno Devi Hospital in Katra.

Expressing grief over the deadly accident, Chief Minister Ms Mehbooba Mufti ordered a cash relief of Rs 10000 each in favour of the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 5000 each for the injured.

MLA Reasi and MoS Finance Ajay Nanda confirmed to Kashmir Life that twenty two persons have died in the accident.

“The driver of the bus has managed to escape from the spot,” he said, “investigation is on.”

“I am on way to attend last rites of fourteen deceased passengers,” he said, “eight others are still in hospital,” he added.
