Kashmir is observing 105th consecutive day of shutdown on Friday.

Authorities have beefed up restrictions and forces presence in Srinagar and other major towns of the valley.

Shops, commercial establishments, schools, other institutions remain shut in view of the restrictions and shutdown.

The movement of private vehicles on roads is down. The entry points at Regal Chowk and Amira Kadal to Lal Chowk are sealed with barbed wires and manned by groups of men in uniform.

Since the start of uprising on June 9 after the killing of popular militant commander Burhan Wani on July 08, Fridays witness a surge in forces presence. The government banned mandatory Friday congregational prayers in historic Jamia Masjid for last fourteen Fridays.

So far at least 94 civilians have been killed, more than fifteen thousand others injured, nearly ten thousand arrested in forces action.

In Srinagar’s Batamaloo area, cops drove through alleys this morning asking people to stay indoors thus enforcing strict curfew.

Major towns in north Kashmir are witnessing a complete shutdown today.

Forces carried out a massive crackdown—2nd time in the current week in Baramulla town.

In Kupwara, which witnessed significant commercial activities in the last few days, shopkeepers have stayed indoors today and transport is sparse. A shopkeeper from Kupwara told Kashmir Life over phone that market is “completely” shut.

In South Kashmir’s Kulgam district, a bullet riddled body of a youth was recovered from Kujjar area of Yaripora.

Reports said that the South Kashmir districts are observing shutdown and there is “almost no movement” of private traffic today.

Meanwhile, United Jihad Council chief and Hizbul Mujahideen supreme commander, Syed Salahuddin has asked Pakistan to “extends military support to Kashmiri militants”.
