State minister for Finance, Dr Haseeb Drabu Wednesday visited Safdarjung Eye Centre at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi to enquire about the welfare of five Kashmiri youth including a girl, who are undergoing treatment for their pellet injuries.

As per a government handout, the minister visited the hospital on the directions of the Chief Minister, Ms Mehbooba Mufti.

Drabu in AIIMS on July 27, 2016Those undergoing treatment at AIIMS include Insha of Sedhou, Shopian, Asif Ahmad Sheikh of Sopore, Junaid Ahmad of Qazigund and Firdous Ahmad Dar of Sopore, who are treated at the expense of AIIMS.

The statement also read that people have been assured of all possible support from the state government. “Minister assured the relatives of the injured youth that the government would come up with a special rehabilitation plan for young men and women who have been disabled in recent law and order situation,” reads the statement.

As per the SMHS records, at least 183 patients were admitted in Ophthalmology department during the two weeks of unrest, among which 148 have been operated as first part of the surgery. Out of these 23 were critically injured who  who need serious medical intervention for treating their injured eyes.

“20 victims have injuries in both eyes, while in 10 patients one eye has been eviscerated (removed). Three patients are totally blinded after the pellet injury,” says doctors at SMHS.
