Hundreds of people responded to ‘Chalo’ call by united resistance leadership and marched towards South Kashmir’s Islamabad.

Local correspondent reports reaching KL Newsroom said that the government clamped down with strict curfew on Monday in the area, however, people took alternate routes to reach Lal Chowk Islamabad.

The united resistance leadership had called for Islamabad ‘Chalo’ today to pay tributes to all those persons who were killed by force since July 09 and express sympathy with caged local population.

Hurriyat patriarch Syed Ali Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq also tried to march towards Islamabad but were arrested by police and lodged at different Police stations.

Local reports said that several Hurriyat leaders had succeeded in reaching Anchidora who tried to take out protest march toward Islamabad. But they were arrested and whisked away.

“This resulted in clashes and scores of persons were injured,” local reports said.

From Kokernag and Achabal areas, reports said that people organized minor rallies but forces stopped and clashes erupted while reports of protests reached from Jablipora-Bijbehra; Kaimoh, Khudwani and Kulgam as well.

“DC, DIG and SSP are in Lal Chowk to control the situation,” reports said, “there is huge deployment of forces which includes regular army as well.”

Scores of protestors were injured when forces lobbed tear gas canisters when they tried to march towards Islamabad.

The people while taking zigzag link routes had come from Tral, Bijbehara and Duchnipora villages-Srigufwara, Nanil, Kanilwan, Aang, Matipora.

The protesting people raised intense pro-freedom and anti-India slogans on way to Islamabad town, reports added.

But they were intercepted by forces near Anchidora where people were waiting from them.

The injured were being treated at a local dispensary as roads to Islamabad town were sealed and no one was allowed to move towards it.

At least 52 civilians were killed by government forces since July 09, 2016. The South Kashmir has remained epicentre of mass uprising against the “Indian establishment”. Union Home Ministers flew to Kashmir on Saturday morning and stayed in valley for two days. Appealing for peace, he hinted that “dialogue will start but only after normalcy returns”.
