Amid strong reports that Hurriyat patriarch Syed Ali Geelani is “not well”, his family on Monday said that “they are just rumours”.
Notably, reports coming from various parts said that people are “anxious about Geelani’s health”.
“Our area is tense since morning as youths are playing Azaadi songs through Masjid loud speakers,” a caller from Batamaloo said, “and suddenly there were rumours of Geelani’s health getting deteriorated.”
The caller said that since “rumours spread there were intensity in pro-freedom sloganeering”.
However, when Kashmir Life contacted family of octogenarian Geelani, it said, “Geelani sahab is all ok.”
“I was with him last night and I spoke to him just now as well,” Naseem Geelani, Geelani’s younger son told Kashmir Life, “he is all ok.”
Naseem added, “people should not believe rumours.”
Geelani is 87 years old and is an acute chest patient. The continuous house detention has taken toll on his health, doctors attending his have said.
