Islamabad Chalo, Geelani Arrested on July 25, 2016

Defying curfew, Hurriyat patriarch Syed Ali Geelani on Monday took out a march from his Hyderpora ‘garrisoned’ residence but was arrested.

The united resistance leadership had called for Islamabad Chalo today to pay tributes to persons who were killed by forces since July 09.

However, authorities laid siege across major South Kashmir towns and didn’t allow any movement. The main Islamabad town was garrisoned with additional deployment today and all senior government functionaries present at Lal Chowk.

Hurriyat Conference (g) statement issued this afternoon said that Syed Ali Geelani was arrested by police when he took out the march towards South Kashmir’s Islamabad.

The octogenarian leader is under continuous house detention since he returned from New Delhi. Police have stationed a truck outside his residence thus stopping any vehicular movement and cops keep watch as “enters and leaves the office-cum-residence” of Geelani.

Geelani Arrested on July 25, 2016

“Geelani was arrested outside his residence at New Airport Road at 12:40 (noon) and was taken to Police Station Humhama,” the statement said.

It is to mention here that the resistance leadership had announced that on Monday (July 25), people in large numbers should move towards south Kashmir’s Islamabad district and participate in a rally to be held at Lal Chowk there after the Zuhr (afternoon) prayers to express solidarity with people there and pay glowing tributes to the recent “martyrs”.
