Post afternoon prayers on Saturday, the silence in restive locality of Frestabal in Pampore town was broken when loudspeakers in Masjids came to life with youth shouting pro-freedom and anti-India slogans.

“After half-an-hour, a police party reached the spot and got hold of two youths,” said a local eyewitness who called Kashmir Life office. “They were not among those who were shouting slogans.”

When the news of “arrest” spread in the area, women came out of their houses and encircled the raiding police party, demanding the release of youth immediately. “After a shot standoff police let the boys go,” said the eyewitness.

As police party left loudspeakers once again came to life, this time in another Masjid of the same locality.

Since last nights, when a local fruit vendor’s shop was torched by protestors for defying shutdown call, restrictions in Pampore town are strictly enforced. “We couldn’t even move out of our homes,” said another caller from the locality.

The tension in Pampore town began after scores of youths injured in Kakapora firing were bought here for treatment on Friday afternoon.
