SRINAGAR

I shut down the window and retired to bed. And soon slumber overpowered me. A dream journey began. I saw brown mountain standing behind a crystal stream. Sky full of clouds, but sun was mysteriously smiling through them. I wanted to take a dip into serene waters. I wanted to wash off all my assembled burdens. Those nightmares; those bad memories and those terrified moments, I wanted to unload my heart and mind. But before I could do that, a call of muezzin flashed reality before my recoiling senses. I was back in my room where instead of serene waters, a recollection reigns supreme.

In order to bring synergy in the efforts of the state to fully harness and exploit its abundant water resources, government plans to have Water Resources Department (WRD). This was stated by state’s finance minister Dr Haseeb Drabu in his budget speech.

Dr Drabu said that WRD “will be responsible for planning and management of all the water resources, including lakes and rivers, of the state.”

He said that Rs 2 crore have been earmarked for the creation of the department.
