SRINAGAR
A 30 year old patient underwent a Neuro-Spinal Surgery(L5S1Micro Discectomy)which was performed under Regional Anaesthesia (Spinal Anaesthesia) at Jawahar Lal Nehru Memorial Hospital (JLNM), Srinagar on November 22, 2014.
Such surgeries are routinely performed under General Anaesthesia. Anaesthetists Dr Saleem Javaid and Dr Shabeer Siddiqui said that “Although series of such procedures have been done under regional anaesthesia in outside world and few centres of India, it has been for the first time in the anaesthesia history of Kashmir that this procedure was done under Regional Anaesthesia wherein patient was awake and the lower part of his body was anaesthetised.”
The surgery was a success and patient is doing well post operatively. It is pertinent to mention here that the significance of this procedure is that it is painless, cost effective and less hospital stay post operatively.
The operative team included Dr Saleem Javaid, Dr Shabeer Siddiqui (Consultant Anaesthetists) , Dr Mir Basharat (Neurosurgeon), Habibullah , Bashir Ahmad, Suraya and Bashir Ahmad.
