MLA Langate Engineer Rashid Tuesday said that plebiscite is the only solution to Kashmir problem, terming autonomy and Self Rule as “gimmick”.

Rasheed was speaking at one day seminar on eve of anniversaries of Mohammad Afzal Guru and Mohammad Maqbool Bhat titled: “Selective Hangings”.

The seminar was organized by Rasheed led Awami Ittihaad Party.

“The then Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru had promised plebiscite at the historic Ganta Ghar at Lal chowk and had himself took the case of Kashmir conflict to UN,” Rasheed said, “Kashmir is neither integral part nor jugular vein.”

Lashing out at authorities, Rasheed said, “by sending Afzal and Maqbool to gallows, India has by this act produced ‘Afzals and Maqbools’ in every lane of Kashmir.”

Lamenting at New Delhi based media, Rasheed said, “by distorting facts, they can’t change ground realities in Kashmir.” “The media’s role in Afzal’s case played decisive role in his hanging and it was their creation.”

Terming himself as “biggest friend of India”, he said, “India is ruling Kashmir only through police might and at the same time are afraid to return the mortal remains of Afzal and Guru.”

Rasheed asserted that the day “he feels he has failed to deliver for people in assembly” and “Kashmir conflict could get resolved due to his resignation, he will resign.” “I love Hurriyat and they are my own people,” said Rasheed.

“We have more than one lakh Muslim martyrs and only 209 Pandits were killed in last 25 years,” he said while demanding probe in killings in Kashmir by setting up a commission of “independent people”. “There is no mainstream and separatist in Kashmir, the only thing which is the true representation is ‘Azadi’ demanding people,” he added.

He termed participation of huge number of people in militant funerals as “eye opener” for Union government and said, “to present the participation of people in polls as referendum for India’s favour is futile.” “It is high time for people to unite under one banner and fight for plebiscite.”
