Literary Forum Bandipora has announced an annual award “Sharf-e-Nadim” for best Na’atkhawan poet of the state in memory of the famous Na’atkhawan Abdul Ahad Nadim.

“The decision was taken in a General body meeting on Sunday headed by Forum President Mubashir Saleem Nazki. “Sharf-e-Nadim” will be awarded for outstanding achievement and contribution in “Na’at” – a form of poetry in which Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is praised,” statement from the forum said.

Forum has also constituted a 5-member committee which will nominate a poet of extra ordinary performance in this form of poetry in the state. “The committee will soon nominate a poet for the award this year,” said Mubashir Saleem Nazki.

Giving details about the award, Nazki said the award will include a memento, a citation and cash prize which will be given every year on ‘Nadim Day’.

“For the first time LFB has also decided to hold a literary conference on the contribution of Abdul Ahad Nadim in the field of “Na’at Khawani” in Kashmiri. The conference will be held in the month of March,” the statement said.

During the meeting, LFB appealed poets and scholars of the valley to contribute their knowledge about the great Kashmiri poet who is also called ‘Jami of Kashmir’ to pass on the knowledge to our next generation so that they are aware of these great scholars.
