Police arrested an assailant while four of his accomplices managed to escape from the scene after they barged into a house in the middle of the night and harassed inmates in Central Kashmir’s Hanjigund area of district Budgam.

A police official told CNS at least five assailants armed with iron rods and sticks barged into the house of one Mushtaq Ahmed and thrashed inmates there.

“The family members caught hold of one of the assailants and handed him over to police. He has been identified as Ghulam Muhammad Pal of Grovet Khansahab. During investigation it came to four that he was having some personal dispute with the owner of the house Mushtaq Ahmed,” the police official said adding that a formal case has been registered and a hunt has been launched to nab his four other accomplices.

The wife of Mushtaq Ahmed alleged that five assailants before barging into their house snapped the electricity and they locked up her four daughters into a room and tried to molest them. “They beat up my husband to pulp and we managed to grab one of them with the help of our neighbours,” she said and appealed police to take stern action against these goons.
