Scores of carpet weavers of Srinagar city Friday held a protest demonstration in press colony against authorities for delay in release of compensation for property damaged in September 2014 floods.

The protesters raised slogans against authorities for rendering the State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission “defunct”.

They alleged that the untimely transfer of president of the commission has delayed the disposal of awarded amount. “Our complaints against insurance companies have been settled but there is no authority to sign the cheques,” alleged Nazir Ahmad from Rainawari.

The protesters claimed that it has become difficult for them to make the ends meet as they are struggling to re-establish their damaged handicrafts shops.
