Army chief briefed at 16 Corps headquarter, Nagrota

Army Chief Gen Bikram Singh was Wednesday, briefed about the security situation in the wake of killing of five Indian Army men along the Line of Control in Poonch sector.

Sources said that along with senior commanders of various formations, Gen Singh left for Nagrota-based 16 Corps headquarters, where he was brief by senior Army officers led by GoC-In-C Lt Gen Sanjeev Chachra and GOC, 16 Corps, Lt Gen D S Hooda.

He was also briefed about attacks and incidents of firing which occurred before yesterday’s attack.

Soon after his arrival from New Delhi this morning, Gen Singh laid wreaths on the coffins draped in the tri-colour at the Technical Airport in Jammu.

Pertinently, Pakistani troops entered 450 metres in Poonch sector yesterday and ambushed a patrol killing five Indian soldiers.

The five army men killed were 35-year-old Naik Prem Nath of Chappra (Bihar), 29-year-old Lance Naik Shambhu Saran of Bhojpur (Bihar), 27-year-old Sepoy Vijay Kumar Rai of Patna (Bihar), 23-year-old Sepoy Ragunandan of Chhapra (Bihar) and 36-year-old Naik Pundalik Mane of Kolhapur (Maharashtra).
