SRINAGAR

Amid ongoing gunfight between suspected militants and army at Uri in north Kashmir, a Jammu-based army commander Saturday claimed that militants are rearing to cross the Line of Control (LoC) to “create problems” during the Amarnath Yatra.

General Officer Commanding of Nagrota-based 16 Corps, Lieutenant General KH Singh said army is aware of militants “trying” to cross the border to “create problems” during the Amarnath Yatra, “which will be dealt with”.  While claiming that army is trying to carry out more “people friendly” operations, Lt Gen Singh said “there are approximately 36 launch pads and the training camps are also acting”.

The statement has come at a time when union home minister Rajnath Singh and chief minister Mufti Sayeed have themselves reviewed security provisions for the yatra.

Notably, army has already started “Operation Shiva” to keep the annual Amarnath Yatra under security blanket.
