A small hamlet of Khodi Mohalla Sumlar area of district Bandipora has not seen electricity yet. “What could be the shamefulness of the administration that in the 21st century a place in Kashmir is reeling under darkness,” Mohammad Shafi, a local said.

Residents have approached the authorities many times but, “we have only been given false assurances”, said Zakir Hussain, another local.

“At that time they assured us the work will be started soon, but nothing has been done yet and government has failed us,” added Zakir.

When contacted, the PDD officials said that the villagers will have to wait till “a new scheme is announced”.

Speaking to Kashmir Life, chief engineer PDD, Bashir Ahmad Khan said, “we don’t have any scheme yet through which we could install poles and transformer in the area, however, once the new schemes come up, electricity will be supplied village”.
