In last two years 5,478.4 hectares of encroached forest land has been retrieved by the Forest Department in the state.
In a written reply, the government informed the house that 2,501.05 hectares of land has been retrieved during last two years out of the old recorded encroachments, Forest Minister said, while as from the unrecorded attempts of encroachments 2977.35 hectares of forest land has been retrieved.
In 2015 the forest land encouraged till April 2015 has been stated as 12919.01 hectares while the area evicted during 2015-16 has been stated as 888.92 hectares.
In 2016 the area evicted has been stated as 1612.31 hectares, that includes 1577.72 hectares from Kashmir and 1612.31 hectares from Jammu region.
