Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Lal Chowdhary Wednesday said that about 500 km road length in Jammu is being blacktopped on war footing.

The Minister said this while inaugurating re-surfacing programme and macadmization work on 8 km road from Dewar Camp to Budhur post Nikohar near International Border in Suchetgarh constituency.

Sham said that government is according top priority to new constructions and attention is being paid to up-gradation of existing road infrastructure in the state. He asked the executing agencies for optimum use of funds and finish the projects within deadline. He also urged people to personally monitor the works being executed in their respective areas.

Responding to the demands of locals, the Minister said that a comprehensive plan to develop the constituency on modern lines is underway. The plan covers up-gradation of infrastructure in all essential sectors including R&B, PHE, Irrigation, PDD, Education, Health, Sports and Transport.

The Minister while stressing upon the officers and engineers to work with dedication and honesty, also sought cooperation from the people in proper maintenance of water supply facilities. He directed the concerned agencies for making efforts to preserve the traditional water sources and revival of the old water bodies.

The Minister also congratulated the people for getting Rs. 15 crore projects to upgrade all facilities in 6 Panchayats of Sai Kalan under a cluster model village. He said that the government was tirelessly working for the development of border and remotest areas by providing better civic amenities and other required infrastructure.

Later, the Minister along with senior officers of Irrigation Department also visited Treva Border Lift Irrigation Canal and took stock of the availability and supply position of water for irrigation purpose.
