A 39-year-old government employee was killed in South Kashmir’s Chancher village of district Kulgam Friday late evening.

Shot in chest and thigh, the slain is identified as Asad ullah Kumar, an employee of department of Fisheries. According to reports Kumar is resident of Qaziund.

However locals alleged that there was some sort of cordon in the area and during which few gunshots were heard.

The unconfirmed reports suggest that army had a tip off about the presence of militants and Kumar was on the duty. Taking his movement as suspicious, he was fired upon in chest and thigh.

District police officials confirmed the death of Kumar but did not divulge the details.
